The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I consumed this book in about a week. I wouldn't consider this book as being a quick-read. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins may look intimidating by its enormous number of pages. But once you get started reading you, you never want to stop.
North America has been destroyed and is now run by The Capitol. North America is now divided into 12 districts. There were thirteen districts but district thirteen was destroyed in a rebellion .All of the districts now go by the name of The Nation of Panem. To show their dominance on the districts, the Capitol hosts the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is an annual event in which one boy and one girl, also known as tributes, between the age of twelve and eighteen are randomly drawn to a fight to the death. The story centers on Katniss Everdeen and her family, Prim and their widowed mother, as they struggle to survive in district 12.
With Katniss’s sister, Prim, being only twelve years old, her chance of being called was one in a million. Katniss was horrified when her sister was picked. Knowing that Prim had no fighting chance in the Hunger Games, Katniss has no other option but to step forward and volunteer to take her sister’s place in the Games. Along with Katniss comes, Peeta Mellark, the baker's son, who grew up with her. Now their adventure begins as their minds are saying “kill or be killed”.
This novel is beautifully written with a few love scenes here and there. You will love Katniss as she is a skilled huntress, a loving person, and she is also competitive. The Hunger Games would defiantly be considered "a nail biter" as you continue to flip the pages as the story continues. I highly recommend you go out and read this marvelous book.
